We’ve known for a while now that Samsung is readying the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro for release, with leaks pointing to a rugged device with a good level of horsepower. Now, the Korean brand has reportedly confirmed that the device is coming, alongside a rugged tablet.

Samsung sent an email to partners confirming an online event on July 13, SamMobile reported. The accompanying image also mentions and shows off the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro. Check out the picture below.

The European Union’s requirement that gadgets charge exclusively via USB-C ports from 2024 is a welcome move in many corners. It primarily affects Apple’s stubborn attachment to the Lightning port in lieu of the far more universally adopted connector, cables, and chargers. But it also means the end of new USB-A and micro-USB-powered accessories, ranging from headphones to portable speakers. The exception is laptops, which have a 40-month reprieve until 2025.

That sounds like good news — no one wants to be faffing around with different cables and chargers, after all. Plus, the EU directive estimates moving entirely to USB-C will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by around 180ktCO2e, material use by about 2,600 tons, and e-waste by 980 tons every year. So what’s not to love?

Optimizing for maximum productivity was my number one goal when I decided to redo my home office earlier this year. Like any self-respecting techie, it was clear that a large-screen monitor was going to be the centerpiece of my desk setup. My requirements were straightforward: plenty of screen real estate to work with, decent color accuracy, and aesthetics. And so began a long journey of researching some of the best ultrawide monitors around, since every internet guru says that’s the way to go.

As the headline makes clear, I ended up making a hard pivot towards a 4K television instead. Here’s why.

Sony is always on the cutting edge of mobile camera technology, and a recent report in Nikkei Japan indicates that the company believes its breakthroughs will see smartphones match and even overtake the capabilities of DSLR and mirrorless cameras as soon as 2024.

At a recent business briefing, President and CEO of Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS), Terushi Shimizu, noted that “still images [from smartphones] will exceed the image quality of single-lens reflex cameras within the next few years.” A slide from the same briefing points to 2024 as the timeline where Sony sees that smartphone “still images are expected to exceed ILC [interchangeable lens camera] image quality.”

The company has a raft of changes coming with this fall’s iPadOS 16, including enhanced Stage Manager multitasking, resizable and overlapping windows, and real external display support that lets you extend your desktop instead of just mirroring it. Developers are also getting tools to provide more Mac-like apps.

Conspicuously absent, though, was something Apple went out of its way to demonstrate for iOS 16 on iPhones — customizable lockscreen styles, including widgets for things like the Calendar and Fitness apps. The gap made so little sense that at first, I thought I must’ve missed something.
