    • New details about the iPhone 15 Ultra have leaked.
    • The leak suggests that the next generation iPhone may have dual front cameras.
    • The leak also claims the iPhone 15 Ultra could have more storage.

Although the iPhone 14 just came out not long ago, rumors about the iPhone 15 have been swirling, particularly about the iPhone 15 Ultra. A new leak suggests that the phone could be getting two front-facing cameras and more storage.

It was only a week ago when we heard a rumor that Apple plans on rebranding its iPhone Pro Max line to Ultra. Now we have another leak courtesy of tipster Majin Bu. According to Majin Bu, the iPhone 15 Ultra will be making a change to the existing iPhone design in the form of dual front-facing cameras. What this second camera will be used for is anyone’s guess.

    • The Pixel Watch was spotted at a Target distribution center a week before Google’s Pixel event.
    • The watch could end up on store shelves sooner than expected.

Next Thursday Google will be holding its hardware event where it’s expected that we’ll see the new Pixel 7 series and the Pixel Watch. But it looks like someone got an earlier look at the Pixel Watch than the rest of us.

Over the weekend, someone at a Target distribution center uncovered a Pixel Watch in its retail packaging. According to Droid Life, the person who mistakenly found the device snapped a picture of the box, sent it to a friend, and the friend posted the image on Reddit.

    The iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island solves a problem I didn’t know I had

Long before Apple revealed the iPhone 14 Pro, the rumor mill had already predicted that Cupertino’s latest would sport a radically different front camera. The rumors started off accurately describing the two camera cutouts, and eventually went on to nail the pill shape with camera indicators in between. However, what came out wholly out of left field was Dynamic Island — Apple’s co-mingling of software smarts with hardware constraints to hide the unsightly cutouts.

Some may call Dynamic Island a prime example of Apple’s infamous reality distortion field to draw attention away from the two gaping holes in the display, but I’ve been using the iPhone 14 Pro for the last five days, and it surprises me to say that I’m sold on the idea.

A thin design used to be one of the most important factors for mobile phone manufacturers prior to the smartphone era. But even the modern smartphone era saw some brands obsess over reducing thickness, particularly in the late 2000s to early 2010s.

In saying so, it seems like today’s smartphone manufacturers aren’t too obsessed with thickness anymore. Is this something consumers care about, though? That’s the topic of our featured poll today, so let us know by casting a vote below.

Does your phone support Seamless Updates? Many readers don’t know.

Seamless Update functionality has been around on Android for years now, letting a system update install in the background and then asking users to simply reboot to apply the update.

Some companies like Samsung still don’t support Seamless Updates, though. But it emerged last week that Google will enforce a key change that could lead to this update method being mandatory on Android. So with all that in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to ask readers whether their phones supported Seamless Updates in the first place. Here’s how you answered the survey.

Apple Watch Ultra survives hammer beating while table underneath it cracks

Apple Event 2022 watch ultra compas

    • A popular YouTuber performed a durability test on the Apple Watch Ultra.
    • The smartwatch survived a drop on its face and a roll in a jar of nails.
    • When beaten with a hammer, the wearable held together even as the table underneath it cracked.

Apple calls the Watch Ultra its “most rugged and capable smartwatch” ever. The wearable has a titanium case that surrounds the sapphire crystal display and is MIL-STD 810 rated, meaning it can withstand high levels of environmental stress. But all that is just marketing speak until you really put a product through its paces. One YouTuber did just that with the Apple Watch Ultra, and it looks like the device is indeed a tough nut to crack.

TechRax subjected the Apple Watch Ultra to his popular durability test, where he dropped the smartwatch on its face, put it in a jar of nails, and repeatedly badgered it with a hammer.

The watch survived the drop with just a few scratches on the case while the display remained intact. The nails also failed to scratch the display of the Apple Watch Ultra. However, the most dramatic durability test of them all was the hammer beating.

The YouTuber hit the face of the Apple Watch Ultra with a hammer using varying blow strengths. It’s impressive to see how the watch took that beating like a champ. After several blows, the Apple Watch ultimately cracked, but not before the table on which it was placed broke first. That’s quite something to watch in the video.

While the Apple Watch Ultra held its own after a number of hammer beatings, it eventually failed to turn on. This probably means that the display was tough enough, but the device’s internal components did get damaged during the test. Even so, if you’re spending all that money on the Apple Watch Ultra, rest assured you’ll have a pretty tough wearable on your wrist.

The best thing Google can do for the Pixel line is stay consistent

Google first showed off the Pixel 7 series back in May at its I/O 2022 conference, revealing two phones that seemed more iterative than revolutionary.

Both devices offer similar designs to the Pixel 6 series, featuring those camera visors, center-mounted punch-hole cutouts, and near-identical camera specs to last year. You’d be forgiven for thinking these were Pixel 6 variants. But there’s a strong argument to be made that this is exactly what the Pixel line needs.

The Galaxy Book 2 Pro made Samsung’s ecosystem worth my time

    0

When you hear the name Samsung, you don’t typically think of laptops; you think of foldables, smartphones, or even their watches and TVs. Samsung as a brand has a strong legacy, so much so that a college of mine recently made a case for why it deserves to be the “face of Android.” As the company has grown in popularity, so has its portfolio of devices and the interconnectivity between them. The Galaxy ecosystem is growing.

I have owned Samsung phones since the Galaxy S8 and only bought my first pair of Galaxy Buds last year, but I never expected to use a Galaxy laptop. The Galaxy name carries the weight of high expectations, but the promise of a portable PC that could double as a central hub for my Samsung products was appealing. At the end of my experience, I found the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro to be a reliable work machine that has quickly become the central orbit of my Galaxy devices.

Finding a good power bank is both a simple and complicated matter these days. Choices are unlimited and odds are you’ll get something that does the job, no matter what you pick. But the multitude of charging protocols, power inputs and outputs, and ports means that you’ll be a bit confused by all of it.

I’ve been meaning to upgrade from my 18W 10,000mAh Anker battery for about a year, but I kept delaying the decision until I could get a replacement that’d provide a significant upgrade. The choices I settled on? Two power banks from Baseus — a Xiaomi sister brand — that each serve a different purpose.

It’s the age of megapixels and, for better or worse, 200MP cameras are soon about to become the norm. Motorola is taking the, well, edge here with its Moto Edge 30 Ultra smartphone and Samsung’s new HP1 sensor with a whopping 200 megapixels. Flanked by a 50MP ultrawide sensor and even a 60MP front-facing camera, the focus here is on better imaging by tossing more pixels than you can shake a stick at.

That said, the proof is always in the pictures. We’ve taken the Moto Edge 30 Ultra cameras out for a spin to see if Motorola has managed to end the megapixel war once and for all and beat some of the best camera smartphones on the market.

Foldables are tempting, but Samsung’s iffy warranty is keeping me away

For nearly a year now, I’ve resisted the temptation to buy a foldable smartphone. Like many others, I’ve realized that a lot of my initial misgivings about the form factor have now disappeared. Modern foldables seem a lot more durable at first glance, complete with reinforced hinges and official water resistance ratings. And to top it off, Samsung’s latest offerings are no longer outlandishly expensive either, at least in the context of other premium smartphones.

Nothing is perfect, however, and that applies here as well. While researching my potential purchase, I found that Samsung’s foldable durability claims don’t always hold true in the real world. Still, that’s not a problem, right? With a one or two-year warranty, you should be insulated from manufacturing defects and potential foldable design flaws. Well, that’s seemingly not always the case either, as some unlucky foldable owners have found out.

Android 13 is here and will be rolling out to many more devices over the coming months. As I’m currently using the Galaxy S22 Ultra as my daily driver, I’m in for a little wait until Samsung gets around to rolling out all the new bells and whistles to my handset. But, to be honest, I’m quite happy to wait.

Maybe I’m growing grey and jaded, maybe it’s the lack of tasty dessert names, but the arrival of Google’s latest Android OS wasn’t particularly exciting. Neither was the one before that either. In fact, Pie was perhaps the last OS upgrade that I genuinely felt the need to get my hands on urgently, and that was four years ago! The fact of the matter is that Android is a mature operating system where, thankfully, things don’t need to change regularly. Most of the core features are set in stone, while major design overhauls only come along every four or five years.

I had the Bose QC 35 II, but Sony poached me over with the WH-1000XM5

About two weeks ago, I got my hands on the Sony WH-1000XM5 — the company’s star Active Noise Canceling headphones. I swiftly pried open the wholly recyclable packaging that matches the silver headphones inside — a nice little touch — and hit shuffle on my playlist to see how the cans sound out of the box, without any tinkering.

Mozilla Firefox has long been one of the big browsers alongside Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge (formerly Internet Explorer), and Safari. As such, its anniversary is a pretty big deal. After all, it’s been around for a while. If you Google Searched Firefox’s birthday, Mozilla would have you believe it is November 9th. However, the real anniversary of Firefox is today, September 23rd.

The first Firefox build came out September 23rd
