  • Google takes a cheeky jab at LG with new Pixel 6 ad

    0
    • Google has published a new Pixel 6 ad on YouTube.
    • The video tries to convince LG owners to switch to Pixels.

Google’s Pixel 6 series is shaping up to be the most exciting Pixel phone line in years, and the company’s marketing department was hard at work even before the phones were officially launched.

Now, Google has released a new Pixel 6 video on YouTube to promote the flagships (seen above). The video lists 113 reasons why people should switch to the Pixel line “when the maker of your old phone stops making phones.”

    • Honor has launched the Honor 50 series in China.
    • This is the firm’s first major smartphone release since it was sold by Huawei.

Update: October 26, 2021 (5:02 AM ET): It’s taken a really long time, but Honor has finally launched the Honor 50 series globally. Unfortunately, the Honor 50 Pro is missing, but the Honor 50 and Honor 50 Lite make the cut.

The Honor 50 starts at €529 (~$614) for the 6GB/128GB variant while the 8GB/256GB option will set you back €599 (~$695). Meanwhile, the Lite variant is available for €299 (~$347) for the sole 6GB/128GB option. These phones also have Google support, as they’re the first devices produced after Honor went independent. Unfortunately, there’s no word on availability beyond China and Europe for now.

Sony Xperia Pro-I debuts with a big main camera and a price tag to match

    • Sony has announced the Xperia Pro-I.
    • The camera-centric smartphone packs a 1-inch sensor, 4K display, and Snapdragon 888 SoC.
    • There’s a host of accessories, too, for vloggers and enthusiasts.

Sony‘s pretty adept at crafting compact yet capable mirrorless cameras. It’s not too bad at making smartphones either. So effectively, it would be a shrewd idea to meld the two into one device, right? That’s seemingly what the company’s new Xperia Pro-I is.

The Sony Xperia Pro-I isn’t a direct successor of the original Xperia Pro, which debuted earlier this year. Instead of packing an HDMI out port that few seemingly embraced, the Xperia Pro-I brings in a 1-inch primary camera sensor that dominates the phone’s rear plate. It sits behind a 24mm lens which can shoot at f/2.0 and f/4.0. It’s by no means the first 1-inch camera phone we’ve seen out in the wild, but it might be more accessible to most than the Sharp Aquos R6, or Leica’s Leitz Phone 1.

Color reproduction on displays is a somewhat complicated subject, but it is worth exploring if you care about image quality. If you’ve ever looked at a sampling of televisions next to each other at an electronics store, you may have realized that they all look a bit different. Even if you pick the same image, different displays just tend to process and output colors differently.

This is where color gamut — or the display’s color palette — comes into play.

Speed Test G: Google Pixel 6 vs Exynos Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Not bad Google)

The Google Pixel 6 is finally here which means we now have our first look at how the Google Tensor chipset fares. But how does it stack up against Samsung’s flagship Exynos 2100 processor? That’s what this Google Pixel 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra bout in our Speed Test G suite is all about.

As a refresher, the Pixel 6 has the first-ever chipset designed by Google inside. This chipset, known as Tensor, primarily uses Samsung hardware. Google has tweaked the architecture, though, to enhance its capabilities when it comes to machine learning and AI. Meanwhile, the Exynos 2100 is the processor that appears in Sammy’s flagship phones of the year, namely the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.

Google Pixel 6 Pro review: The most compelling Pixel yet

    0

The Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro show the search giant taking bold new strides with its smartphone line. The two phones — and the Pixel 6 Pro in particular — adopt fresh, premium designs and all the top specs a flagship should offer. It’s almost as if Google finally took user feedback to heart and answered long-standing requests with devices that seemingly have it all. But those aren’t the only challenges Google tackled with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The company took things a step further by engineering its own processor for the phones, Google Tensor, to give them advanced on-device artificial intelligence and machine learning powers. The result is two phones that deliver a range of experiences not available from most other hardware. Can the Pixel 6 Pro, with its high-end appeal, convince people to give up their Galaxies and go with Google? Find out in the Android Authority Google Pixel 6 Pro review.

    • The company added that porting some features will require “additional technical investments.”

One thing that you can count on with new Pixel flagship launches is that at least some of the newest features will come to older Pixel phones. We saw that with the astrophotography mode, Cinematic Pan option, and Call Screening, to name a few.

The Pixel 6 range is a slighty different case though, as Google is leaning heavily on its in-house Tensor processor for some of these features. These features include Live Translate, Motion Mode, and more. Now, Google has revealed whether some Pixel 6 features could come to older devices.

Google’s first smartphone line — the Nexus series — definitely wasn’t synonymous with ultra-premium design and features. The company has attempted to change that perception with its current phone family, the Google Pixel series. But that Nexus-to-Pixel name and strategy shift also resulted in another fundamental change — higher Google Pixel prices.

While flawless hardware still isn’t Google’s strong suit, the company’s software innovation has taken the Pixel series from zero to tech-enthusiast hero. Subscriptions are all the rage at the moment — names like Whoop, Peloton, FightCamp, Fitbit Premium, and Apple Fitness Plus are just the tip of the iceberg.

Subscriptions, it seems, are the future for those of us serious about health. Or rather, they’re something we’re going to have to work around, and really should if we’re going to steer the market in a sustainable direction.

Google has finally taken the wraps off the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. After months of leaks and official announcements, the phones actually look quite impressive. This might be one of the few times in recent memory a tech product has lived up to the hype.

Having used both of the phones now (albeit very briefly), I can say this: these are the Pixels I’ve been waiting for. I’ve written before about how Google has continuously shot itself in the foot ever since the first Pixel in 2016, but that ends now. The new Pixels — and especially the Pixel 6 Pro — are finally at the point where I might be ready to buy one for myself. I have never thought this about a Pixel phone. Ever.

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro vs older Google phones: Should you upgrade?

    0

Credit: Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Google made the jump to flagship pricing with the first Pixel back in 2016. It’s been a roller coaster of pricing and features since. Its high-end phones kept getting more expensive over the next couple of years, forcing the company to introduce affordable alternatives with the “a” series. Google also changes its strategy last year with the Pixel 5, which was a premium mid-ranger more than a true flagship. However, Google is back in the high-end territory this year with the latest Pixel 6 series.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro bring key upgrades across the board. From the completely new design and camera setup to a new homebrewed Tensor processor and more RAM than we’ve ever seen on a Pixel, there’s plenty to get excited about.

    Palash Volvoikar

Rejoice! The MacBook Pro is back. After a long run of terrible updates, Apple has finally made an iteration worthy of the “Pro” tag. There is so much to like here. Two sizes, crazy powerful silicon with every configuration available across both sizes, necessary ports brought back, and the screens made even better. A dream machine for professions, except that it comes with an asterisk — or more precisely, a notch.

Now, all the innovations aside, a notch on a laptop seems like one of those things that ideally shouldn’t exist. Yet, Apple chose to bring the iconic and infamous notch from the new generation of iPhones, to the new generation of MacBooks. Was it really necessary though? Or is it just another Apple thing that doesn’t make sense?
