Ceri Launcher

Price: Free / $1.99

Ceri Launcher is a lightweight and minimal Android launcher. The minimalistic design puts heavy emphasis on getting to the apps you want quickly without a bunch of extra fluff. Some of the features includes a true dark mode for AMOLED displays, support for live wallpapers, a super simple UI, and more. The pro version includes support for things like notification dots. It’s still in the early days and, thus, doesn’t support a lot of stuff that modern launchers do such as icon packs. However, those features should arrive sooner or later.

DoodleLens

Price: Free

DoodleLens is a neat little AR drawing app. You can draw things on a piece of paper like normal and the app turns it into a sticker. You can then place that sticker on anything and take a new picture of it. It’s a super niche app, but one that can add a bit of flair of an otherwise mundane photograph. It’s also great for social media and similar use cases. The app is entirely free with no in-app purchases or ads.

Enlight Pixaloop

Price: Free / $3.99 per month / $59.99 once

Enlight Pixaloop is a unique photo editor. It doesn’t do stuff like you would find in Lightroom or similar apps. Instead, it adds animation to existing photos. For instance, you can take a picture of a waterfall and this app makes the waterfall move like a GIF. You can also do things like replace entire portions of the photo with something else if you need to. We took a picture of the horizon and added a sunset instead of normal sky. The app can get a little expensive, but you can use most of the features for free first to see if you like them.

Firefox Preview

Price: Free

Firefox Preview is a beta release of Firefox’s next mobile browser. It features the new GeckoView. GeckoView promises faster webpage load times compared to the previous version of mobile Firefox. The browser is mostly a preview. You won’t get the full experience with this one. However, it does work as a lightweight browser and that GeckoView is quite impressive to use. The app does still have things like privacy controls and an integrated to-do list.

Five new Android TV apps

Price: Free / Varies per app

There were five new Android apps for Android TV this last month. The list includes SYFY, E!, Oxygen, Bravo, and USA Network. The apps work a lot like their mobile counterparts. You log in, browser content, watch videos, and otherwise engage with content on the network. Those with existing TV subscriptions should be able to use each app for free as an extension of their subscription. It’s a good way to access content from these networks and it’s nice to see Android TV get some additional channel support.

LastPass MFA

Price: Free

LastPass MFA is a multi-factor authenticator tool for LastPass business users. It boasts more secure logins without complicating the login process. It also works on mobile as well as other apps across multiple platforms. The app works just fine. However, there are a lot of one-star reviews on Google Play because a lot of people didn’t know this was for business (enterprise) users only. Those with private accounts should check out LastPass Authenticator. That one works with private accounts.

Mubert

Price: Free trial / $69.99 per year

Mubert is a unique music streaming app. It doesn’t have any songs from any artists. Instead, it automatically generates the music as it plays. There are sliders you mess with in order to change how it sounds and other elements like the tempo. However, at the end of the day, you basically define what kind of music you want, hit play, and then it generates that type of music. The subscription cost is a bit exorbitant, but you can try it for seven days before committing to anything. It’s one of the more unique new Android apps.

Philips Hue Bluetooth

Price: Free

Philips Hue Bluetooth is, well, the official Philips Hue app but for Bluetooth devices. It works very much like the normal app. You can adjust the light brightness, color, and scenes as you need. You can even assign routines if you want and control up to ten lights. However, this version of the app only works with Philips Hue lights with Bluetooth support. Thus, if you don’t have any, you should continue using the normal app.

Scrypted Home Automation

Price: Free

Scrypted Home Automation is an app for scripting home automation. It’s mostly for developers and power users who know a little bit of code. Those looking for an easy automation app like IFTTT should keep using IFTTT, trust us. In any case, this app supports Google, Apple, and Amazon hubs. You can use JavaScript to write your own plugins and you can automate stuff like schedules, events, and various controls. We would like to reiterate that this isn’t for the average consumer, but it’s still one of the better new Android apps.

Shoelace by Area 120

Price: Free

Shoelace by Area 120 is probably Google’s next social network. This one is a local social network and relies heavily on your location. You can meet up with friends, chat about plans, create plans, see where your friends are (with their permission), and more stuff like that. Thus, it’s absolutely nothing like Google+. The app also comes with various activity ideas. The app is in early access beta right now so don’t expect it to work flawlessly just yet.
