Live quiz show app HQ Trivia was shut down back in February after a prospective buyer pulled out at the last minute. Now, the mobile quiz app has risen from its ashes thanks to an unknown investor.

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), people who still had the app on their phones received a notification on Sunday saying that the live game show would return at its usual time of 9PM ET.

Matt Richards, one of the hosts of HQ Trivia and CEO Rus Yusupov also tweeted about the game’s comeback.

HQ Trivia was launched back in 2017 as an iOS app and later expanded to Android in 2018. The app became hugely popular after its Android release, with over two million concurrent players at one point in 2018.

This is a good time for the quiz app to return since billions of people around the world are stuck at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. Who wouldn’t want to play a game of trivia and win real money when there’s not much else to do right now?

Moments before HQ Trivia made its return on Sunday, game master Richards told WSJ: “I just hope I can make people smile cause things have been pretty sucky lately!”

Sunday’s game offered players $1,000 in prize money and more than 100,000 people were reportedly logged in before the game started.
