The OnePlus 8 is likely just around the corner, and plenty of rumors and leaks have been rolling in. The latest rumors come from a recent APK teardown done by XDA Developers, which reveals a OnePlus 8 for Verizon is likely in the works.

The teardown in question was of the latest OnePlus Launcher version 4.3.3. This update landed in the Play Store earlier today, and it included a few aesthetic changes, including the ability to hide icon labels on the home screen and the addition of an AMOLED black theme for the OnePlus Shelf.

What users would not have seen on the surface are several pieces of evidence sitting deep within the launcher’s code that point toward a OnePlus 8 Verizon variant. This includes a new string referencing a Verizon folder, a method called “isVerizon” in the “SkuHelper” class that returns true if the software type is “Verizon,” and a switch statement in the DeviceHelper class that explicitly lists “OnePlus8VZW” alongside “OnePlus8TMO” and other possible variants.

If this is true and there will be a OnePlus 8 Verizon model, then that also likely means the device will tout mmWave 5G support and not just sub-600MHz. We obviously can’t verify this for sure, but that only makes sense considering Verizon only supports mmWave 5G connections for now.

Now, no matter how strong the evidence is, none of this is official information, and anything can change between now and the device’s launch date. Though a OnePlus 8 Verizon variant looks quite promising, we should always take rumors and leaks with a grain of salt.
