Fitness trackers have been around for a long time, but they’ve really hit their stride (ha!) over the last few years. As a result, we’ve seen a rise in popularity with leading brands including Garmin, Fitbit, and even Samsung. A good fitness tracker no longer just counts steps. It can now provide a heaping of other useful metrics and data: from heart rate, to stress levels, to blood oxygen saturation, and more. Others add in smartwatch features to provide even more bang for your buck. Join us as we take a look at the best Samsung fitness trackers and smartwatches in terms of specs, price, and more.

The best Samsung fitness trackers (in no particular order):

  1. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
  2. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
  3. Samsung Galaxy Watch
  4. Samsung Galaxy Fit

Editor’s note: We’ll be updating this list of the best Samsung fitness trackers regularly as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

samsung galaxy watch active 2 - samsung fitness tracker

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is Samsung’s latest and greatest fitness tracker with all the bells and whistles. The slick design benefits from a beautiful curved-glass AMOLED display and premium build quality. The touch-enabled bezel, on the other hand, is ideal for quick operation on the move. The attractive body houses a slew of great health-tracking features, ranging from heart rate monitoring (that alerts you if it falls within certain ranges), to GPS, to some of the best sleep tracking around. There’s also a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 LTE model.

The two-day battery life isn’t the best, but it’s not bad compared to most Wear OS watches, and you can charge it with a compatible Galaxy phone thanks to Qi wireless charging. There is a wealth of smart functionality too.

That said, Jimmy found in his review that the heart rate monitoring and GPS of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 weren’t the most accurate. Even so, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 provides a great middle ground between a fitness tracker and smartwatch.

2. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active - one of the best samsung fitness tracker

If you like the Galaxy Watch Active 2 but don’t need all the new features and want to save some cash, look no further than the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active. This wearable is a toned-down version of the Galaxy Watch. It uses the Tizen OS and offers most of the features found on its larger sibling.

The biggest omission is Samsung’s iconic rotating crown. Without it, you have to navigate the wearable using its 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen (there are worse fates). With the Exynos 9110 CPU, 768MB of RAM, and a 230mAh battery under the hood, the Galaxy Watch Active will have no problem running apps downloaded from the Galaxy App store for almost two days straight.

If you own a Galaxy S10 or S20 smartphone, you can also wirelessly charge the Galaxy Watch Active on the back of the handset. Being Qi compatible also means that you should be able to charge the Samsung fitness tracker on any of your existing wireless chargers.

Unfortunately, this watch suffers from the same problems as the Watch Active 2. Its heart rate and GPS monitoring can’t be trusted all that much.

3. Samsung Galaxy Watch

Samsung Galaxy Watch - one of the bes Samsung fitness tracker

The Galaxy Watch is Samsung’s big-and-rugged smartwatch. This timepiece is great for everything from displaying notifications, running apps from the Galaxy Apps store, and tracking vitals while exercising.

The Galaxy Watch comes in two different sizes: 46mm and 42mm. While there is a small difference in display dimensions, both wearables sport a 300 x 300 resolution display, and are powered by the Exynos 9110 CPU. They also include NFC for mobile payments using Samsung Pay. With 472mAh and 270mAh cells, each watch is estimated to get up to seven or four days respectively of battery life.

There are two models: an LTE and a Wi-Fi one. The two variants only differ in terms of RAM. The cellular model gets almost double the amount of memory to help it run on its own since it doesn’t need to be paired with a phone. Whichever you choose, the Galaxy Watch is one of the best Samsung smartwatches you can buy.

4. Samsung Galaxy Fit

Galaxy Fit Best Samsung Fitness Tracker
Samsung’s latest fitness tracker, the Galaxy Fit, is in many ways the successor to the Gear Fit 2. That said, it also offers a completely different feature set. It has done away with the curved screen and advanced smart features. However, you can still receive notifications and respond with pre-written replies.

The Galaxy Fit is all about fitness, and provides everything you need to that end: heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, auto sleep tracking, 5ATM water resistance, and more. It does all this in a slim and light package, for just $76. If fitness is the thing you care about most, this is the best Samsung fitness tracker for you.

Which Samsung fitness tracker is right for me?

Which Samsung fitness tracker is right for you? Good question.

The answer will likely come down to whether you would prefer something that doubles as a smartwatch or whether you just want fitness features. If you are looking for an all-in-one device with all the bells and whistles, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is your best choice. Even though its tracking can be a bit hit or miss, it’s a stylish device that can worn to every occasion.

Fitness fanatics, however, will be better off with the Galaxy Fit. The value it offers is hard to argue with and its tracking won’t disappoint you.
