Google Art Transfer app

Google’s Arts & Culture app just got a new feature that allows you to make your own versions of well-known paintings throughout history. It’s called Art Transfer, and unlike the traditional picture filters we are used to, the app uses artificial intelligence wizardry to turn your photos into modern-day masterpieces.

According to Google, Art Transfer utilizes an algorithmic model created by AI to edit the photos instead of laying an overlay on top of them. The app does this locally without the help of the cloud. There are more than 20 different styles to choose from featuring art from the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Leonardo da Vinci, and several other famous artists. The results seem pretty decent, but don’t expect to create the next Mona Lisa.

Though the tech behind it sounds complicated, Art Transfer is pretty simple to use. Just open the Arts & Culture app, and tap the camera icon at the bottom. From there, select “Art Transfer” and either take a new picture or pick an existing one on your device.

You can then select one of more than 20 styles to apply to your photo and either save your new artwork to your device or share it with friends and family online as a still image or GIF. There are even some basic customization features if you want to add the style to only a part of the photo.

If you want to give the Arts & Culture app’s new Art Transfer feature a go, you can download it at the link below.
