Welcome to another week of new TV and movie trailers for titles headed to popular streaming services. This week, we’ve got trailers for a ton of new content on HBO Max, including a new limited series starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, a filmed version of David Byrne’s Broadway show, and a docudrama focussed on the historic fight for LGBTQ+ rights in America.
Of course, our list of new TV and movie trailers also includes the official WandaVision trailer released last Sunday. You might have already seen it, but what the heck, let’s watch it one more time!
Streaming trailers of the week
WandaVision
The story of the Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff and Vision is all set to propel the MCU forward on Disney Plus. The highly anticipated Marvel series got its first trailer during the recently concluded Primetime Emmy Awards. It reportedly drew a massive 55 million views in the first 24 hours of its release. Why? Because the series follows the events of Avengers: Endgame and will set the premise for all the Marvel TV shows and movies for years to come. WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision. Watch the streaming trailer below.
Small Axe
Small Axe is an upcoming film anthology series on Amazon Prime Video created by legendary director Steve McQueen of 12 Years A Slave fame. The new movie trailer revealed this week gives us a glimpse of London’s West Indian community and its struggles against racism between the 1960s and the 1980s. There are five movies in the upcoming series, the first of which will air on Amazon Prime Video on November 20. Check out the trailer below.
David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet
93-year-old natural historian David Attenborough will return to the small screens in October. In this Netflix trailer for what Attenborough calls “his greatest story ever,” you get a glimpse of how humans have consistently been destroying the Earth — replacing the wild with the tame. However, our learned presenter tells us that there still may be hope for saving the planet.
The Undoing
This upcoming HBO Max miniseries might just be what you need to satiate your appetite for a TV series like Big Little Lies. Written for TV by David E. Kelley, The Undoing is based on a 2014 novel called You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz. It focuses on the lives of the uber rich who seem to get away with anything, even murder. Kidman plays Grace Fraser, a successful therapist who has the perfect life with her doting husband Jonathan (Grant), and a son who attends an elite private school in New York City. Things go horribly wrong for her as a series of terrible events unfold, including a violent death and a missing spouse. The streaming series premieres on October 25. See the trailer below.
Equal
From the creators of Queer Eye and Legendary comes Equal — a four-part documentary series that chronicles the struggles of unsung LGBTQO+ heroes who preceded the 1968 Stonewall uprising. The trailer shows that the documentary will also have dramatized bits guided by an ensemble cast, including Samira Wiley, Cheyenne Jackson, Anthony Rapp, Shannon Purser, and others. It’ll also feature archival footage from the historical timeline leading up to the very beginning of the Pride movement.
Truth Seekers
Amazon Prime’s new streaming trailer for Truth Seekers shows Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Samson Kayo star in a supernatural comedy series about a team of paranormal investigators that film ghost sightings across the UK. Through their work, they learn of a deadly conspiracy, one that could bring about the end of the world.
Books of Blood
Books of Blood promises three horrific tales tangled in space and time, all tied into one Hulu original movie. The new movie trailer shows Britt Robertson, Rafi Gavron, Anna Friel, Yul Vazquez, and Freda Foh Shen — the lead cast members of all the three stories. Seth MacFarlane is one of the producers of the film, so it’ll be interesting to see what the master of comedy does with the horror genre.
Run
Hulu’s new movie trailer for Run shows a creepy and obsessive Sarah Paulson caring for her wheelchair-bound daughter. It’s a short little teaser, so we don’t get to see much. However, the new movie is directed by Aneesh Chaganty, who also made the 2018 internet thriller Searching, so we’re excited to see what he has in store for his next title.
David Byrne’s American Utopia
David Byrne’s acclaimed broadway show, American Utopia, comes to HBO this October. Directed by Spike Lee, the film will also be released on HBO Max subsequently. The new movie trailer gives us a sneak peek at the ensemble of 11 musicians, singers, and dancers who come together to create this one-of-a-kind show at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre.
