We got our first glimpse of Google’s new Nest smart speaker back in August. The company itself shared an official teaser with Android Authority and a few other publications, but at the time, we didn’t know much about it apart from its design. Now, the Nest Audio has been listed on retailer Lowe’s website with several images and a few specs. It was also recently spotted by a Twitter user in a Walmart store.
The Google Nest Audio looks like a smaller version of the Google Home Max. According to the retail listing, it’s 6.89-inches tall, 4.8-inches wide, and 3.07-inches thick. It also weighs just over 1kg, making it heavier than the 180g Nest Mini, but lighter than the 4kg Google Home Max.
The smart speaker will retain Google’s signature fabric mesh cover design. It’ll also remain tethered to a wire by the looks of it, so don’t expect a battery-powered Google smart speaker just yet. The power port, Google logo, and what looks like a mic kill switch are placed at the back.
Google Nest Audio price and availability
According to tipster Roland Quandt, the Google Nest Audio will be priced at $99.99 in the US. This puts it somewhere between the Nest Hub and the Nest Hub Max in terms of pricing. Of course, the Nest Audio doesn’t have a screen, so it’s not really comparable to the Nest Hubs. The new speaker is more of a replacement for the original Google Home that’s no longer in production and a cheaper alternative to the $299 Google Home Max.
The Nest Audio will likely launch on September 30 at Google’s Pixel reveal event. It will be unveiled alongside Google’s new Chromecast with Google TV and the new Pixel phones. You can expect it to go on sale alongside all the other new Google hardware, or probably earlier.
