The Huawei Mate 20 Pro stood out back in 2018 for its fast charging speed, offering 40W charging that took the 4,200mAh battery to 70% capacity in 30 minutes. We’ve since seen this tech on the P30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro as well.
Now, it looks like the Huawei P40 series has been certified by China’s 3C body, according to MySmartPrice and serial leaker Digital Chat Station. And the certification shows that one model (presumably the standard P40) supports 22.5W charging, while the other model (presumably the Pro variant) supports 40W charging. Check out the chart below, and note the mentions of 10V/2.25A charging and 10V/4A charging respectively.
This means we’re likely looking at the same charging speed for the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro as its predecessors. The P40 Pro’s charging speed seems quite fast then, but a little disappointing when other brands are offering 50W and even 65W charging solutions. The vanilla model’s 22.5W speed is also long overdue for an upgrade, as the standard variant’s had this speed since the Huawei P10 days.
However, it’s possible that Huawei has been able to tweak other elements to enable faster charging. For example, Samsung’s recent flagships support PPS and USB-Power Delivery 3.0 technologies to help ensure fast yet cool charging.
The 3C listing also appears to confirm that both Huawei P40 models will support 5G connectivity. But it’s entirely possible we could see 4G variants too, as the Kirin 990-equipped Mate 30 series had 4G options as well.
We’ll get all the official details on March 26, as Huawei consumer CEO Richard Yu confirmed the P40 series will launch then. What else would you like to see from the P40 series? Give us your wishlist below!
